Sara Kotch Textiles

Textile designer producing individual hand made pieces in felt, crochet and hand knitting.
Sara graduated from Ravensbourne College of Art and Design in 1979 with a fashion/textiles degree. Initially she sold mainly paper textile designs but after a short while started knitting her own designs. This turned into a hand knitting export business quite quickly. Her first big sales were to Italy including a wonderful shop at the bottom of the Spanish Steps in Rome, followed by America – Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Barney’s, Frank Stella, Nordstrom and many others, then Japan and other European cities.

The market changed and Sara took a break to concentrate on her interest in painting, particularly portrait painting and life drawing. In 2004 she qualified as a lecturer and since then has worked as a part time textile tutor. She has a collection of knitwear designs which she continues to add to but has moved from fashion to accessories for the home.

Her plan is to continue teaching textiles, particular knitting, and she is involved with various projects. She has a small collection of knitted and felted goods on which she takes commissions and her plan is to start a website to sell her products while advertising her design and teaching work.
